Class Descriptions
Creative Movement (ages 2-4)
Students will learn the basics of storytelling, dance and expression in a fun, high-energy class guaranteed to let all the wiggles out! This class introduces body awareness, musicality, stretching and foundational movements of dance. Students will use their imaginations to act out stories, songs, and animal impressions, and learn to express emotions dictated by musical tempo and mood.
Music and Theatre (ages 6-12)
Calling all leading ladies, villains, and characters! Acquire and sharpen music, theatre, and improv skills in a collaborative environment that even shy students will enjoy. Class kicks off with improv and theatre games to warm up, followed by foundations of music theory and acting, character work, group singing, and scene work. As skills build, students may work on singing in rounds and in parts, mime technique, and more advanced scene and character studies.
Because theatre is an inherently performance-based art form, ALL students who sign up will automatically be given roles in the upcoming show. Since class time IS the rehearsal time for the show, class material will be presented to an audience at the end of the semester.
Ballet (5-7, 8-11, and adult)
Develop poise, strength, flexibility and stage presence. Students begin at the barre where they warm up their muscles, learn the ballet positions, and develop endurance. After a series of floor stretches, students move to the center to work on performance technique, jumps, turns and leaps.
Students progress through the curriculum learning the required steps. Once the steps are mastered and/or they age into the next class level they will move up. Because students may be at different levels within the same class, they will be provided with individual correction and challenge so they are always progressing.
Pre-pointe Ballet (ages 8+)
Dancing en pointe is every serious ballerina's dream! To dance safely, dancers must develop strong feet, ankles, leg, core, and back muscles and move with proper technique. This class will focus on building the necessary strength and stamina. Pre-pointe class is a complement to either Tuesday 8-11 year old ballet OR Wednesday adult ballet and must be taken as an add-on to one of those classes. Mothers and daughters may wish to take class together, and ballerinas who don't want to dance en pointe but want an additional weekly class may also sign up. (Please note that although the training may be begin at age 8, bones are not set enough to safely dance en pointe until age 11.)
Lyrical (ages 9+)
Lyrical dance combines elements of ballet, jazz, and contemporary movement to create expressive, flowing choreography. Dancers will explore musicality, technique, flexibility and strength while learning to tell a story and express emotion through movement. This class encourages creativity, artistry and confidence while allowing dancers to discover their own unique style.

About the Teachers
Stacey Sumereau (Monday Creative Movement, Theatre/Music, Ballet) holds a Bachelor of Music with a concentration in Musical Theatre from the Catholic University of America. She toured 43 States and every Canadian Province as a cast member of two Broadway National Tours: The Wizard of Oz (Glinda u/s, Mayoress of Munchkinland, Oz citizen, and flying monkey), and Beauty and the Beast (Mrs. Potts u/s, Wardrobe u/s, and fork/plate/napkin). Stacey also acted in productions at the Kennedy Center (Washington, D.C.), the Shakespeare Theatre (Washington, D.C.), the McCarter Theatre (Princeton, NJ) and numerous theatres in New York City.
Stacey trained in ballet at Northern Virginia Dance Academy under Robin Conrad Sturm and danced en pointe with the Asaph Ensemble, Ms. Sturm's ballet company in Manassas, VA. She also performed for three seasons with Synetic Theatre, an acclaimed mime and movement theatre company in Washington, D.C. known for its wordless Shakespeare adaptations.
Stacey left her theatre career in New York City to discern a religious vocation in 2014. She was invited to document her discernment on worldwide television as one of five young women followed by cameras to three convents in The Sisterhood: Becoming Nuns on the Lifetime Television Network. Stacey realized the need for discernment formation through receiving messages from the viewers of the show, and thus launched her speaking ministry and podcast Called and Caffeinated, interviewing over 100 Catholic guests including Fr. Mike Schmitz and Dr. Scott Hahn. She is a three-time speaker at the National Catholic Youth Conference and speaks at conferences all across the United States. She has presented on the Ascension Presents YouTube channel and the Godsplaining Podcast. In 2025 she authored Adventure Awaits: How to Interpret Your Desires and Hear God’s Voice, published by Ave Maria Press.
Stacey and her husband John have five children ages nine to one. She continues encouraging fellow moms through her YouTube channel and is writing two theological video courses for the Arlington Diocese. It’s a dream come true to teach the performing arts to children in her Catholic community!
